Pretty annoying but by default Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista is opening new links and popups as new Browser Windows instead of opening them inside the browser window in which you clicked the link in the first place. Changing this default behaviour is very simple and only a few clicks away.
Just follow these steps and the popups and clicked links will only open as a TAB in the future.
1) Open Internet Explorer 7 and click Tools - Internet Options. (if you don't see the menu bar on top Hit the ALT key)
2) Then on the general TAB click on settings (near the TABS section / second from below)
3) The settings window for the IE7 Tabbed options wil open, now at the bottom select Alway's open pop-ups in a new tab. (see figure 1)

There you go, the usefull tabbed browsing function finally pays off :)
